Organic Produce

Our fresh farm produce, available for sale in the 2012 season, will include over 75 varieties of vegetables, fruits, and common and rare fresh herbs. Our farm is Certified Organic (by MOSA/USDA), which includes pasture, orchard, vegetables, eggs, sprouts, and mature perennials.

Grassroots Farm specializes in the production of top quality, highly nutritious, certified organic vegetables and specialty herbs. We are just beginning to share the long-awaited harvest from fresh seasonal apples, grapes, strawberries, rhubarb, horseradish, sunchokes,  and asparagus with our customers.

We select several varieties of each vegetable we grow to further diversify our production.

Crops include:

  • tomatoes- heirloom, hybrid, and cherry
  • peppers- bell, frying, green and hot
  • 
potatoes- blue, gold and fingerling
  • onions-  scallions, fresh mini, and storage bulb
  • shallots
  • garlic- green, fresh bulb, and cured
  • popcorn- heirloom and hybrid
  • pumpkins and winter squash
  • cucumbers
- pickling, slicing, and specialty
  • melons- red and yellow flesh seeded
  • 
lettuce heads and salad mixes
  • kale- curly green, red russian, and lacinato
  • 
rainbow swiss chard

  • cabbage- napa, savoyed, and green storage

- red, golden, and chioggia

turnips- purple top and hakueri

radishes- french breakfast, multi-colored, and beauty heart

We also grow and harvest wild culinary and medicinal herbs including chives, thyme, sage, garlic chives, parsley, dill, sorrel, cilantro, basil, echinacea, catnip, lemon balm, oregano, mullein, red clover, and plantain. For all prospective and returning customers, “Watch us Grow!” as we add Certified Naturally Grown fresh local produce to our CSA sharebox from Andrea Hazzard of Hazzard Free Farms in Pecatonica, Illinois. Her high quality contribution to select summer and fall shareboxes will allow us to expand to serve more eager customers while maintaining a high level of quality and service that comes with your Grassroots Farm membership. Much anticipated 2012 CSA contributions from Hazzard Free Farms include sweet corn, sweet potatoes, broccoli, green beans, cabbage, and summer squash.
